Do mud tires wear faster? Is there another tire that compares?

I have 275/70/17 Goodyear Wrangler M/Ts do these wear faster than an all terrain tire these tires rock on my truck so i hate to switch but they are anywhere from $250 -- $350 apiece. Is there another tire that is comparable to this tire for less money? Thanks for all your answers
