I have a problem in working in US .Please help me out with my details?

I came here in US a year back leaving my job as a copy editor in India.I did my ph d in English from India .I am confused that what all can I do here in english as right now I am sitting at home n on h4 visa .Do they recognise my phd over here n I can apply as a lecturer in university in english department.What all they they see in a person for english lecturer in university level.
