Are newts suitable for an aquarium?

Thinking about getting something weird, other than a fish for the aquarium. I've had firebelly newts before that I purchased from the fish store. They always ended up crawling out of the tank and drying up somewhere. I wonder if these are even suited for or meant to be in an aquarium? Are they totally aquatic? I've seen an Item for them thats like an air dome inside the tank. Do they like that? Anyone had any success with newts?
