Jerusalem’s Al Aqsa Mosque is from where Muhammad rose to Heaven?

There are many historical contradictions in the Isra'a. One more question - how come god talks about Msjid Aqsa qhile there was no mosque or even a single Muslim around the area by the time that verse was (supposed to be) revealed?
