fissure - too scared for surgery. help!!!!?

ok this is such an embarring problem, but hopefully i can get some answers from real ppl wit real life experiences - rather than going bak to my gp n having him poke around :S so about 2 years ago i managed to get an fissure (unlucky is an understatement). went to bottom specialist immediately and he gave me ointment to apply but it neva went away :( the pain wen i first got the fissue was the most agonising God-awful pain iv ever had for weeks (i mean like it hurt to walk) but has healed a bit n is bearable now. it only really hurts wen i go number 2 but is sooo annoying cos i jst hav to take the pain every time. i went bak to my specialist n he said if it doesnt heal with the cream, the next step is surgery. im so scared to hav surgery cos i dont want that excruciating pain again. im desperate for an alternative. if anyone out there has any helpful advice, would be so greatful. thanks!!
