How did the carolina hurricanes turn out so fail this year?

they seemed so good at the end of last year, what happened?!?!? i dont know whether to blame Paul Maurice or J.R. yeah they have had alot of injuries, but when we had Laviolette we had MORE injuries and still had a better season and he ended up getting FIRED... something is wrong with this picture... -_-
